Motherhood

Motherhood is the most transformative experience of my life. When I was teaching, I met many different mothers and had the opportunity to ask a lot of questions, observe, and learn from different styles of motherhood. Montessori appealed to me in this role of the mother. Dr. Montessori wrote a lot about the infant mother connection and a mother’s significance in a child’s life.

In learning about Montessori, my husband and I set up a foundation of values and had many discussions about what parenting would look like for us. Now, as anyone who has kids knows, these conversations evolved and our ideas about parenthood have changed drastically over the years, but having the Montessori approach, books, workshops, etc. to ground us has helped us become stronger parents. We are so thankful for the guidance in many of the writings of those who have continued the work and guided parents on how to practically apply it to the world we live in now.

There are some elements of Montessori that we support at home and others our daughters only experience through Montessori schools. Through my blog posts, you will hear about our experiences both with Montessori in our home, but also as parents of children in Montessori education and what supporting from home looks like for us. I’ll also share some things that are not Montessori, but work well for us. Just as Montessori talks of following the child, I do firmly believe it is very important for each family to find what works best for them because every family is unique.
